Focus topic: Lechler Helix nozzles for flue gas desulphurization

Special flue gas cleaning is required to remove pollutants such as sulphur compounds (SO2 and SO3) from the flue gases of industrial plants. Flue gas desulphurization (DeSOx) is a tried and tested process for this. Efficient nozzles are crucial in flue gas desulphurization (FGD) plants, as they have to function precisely over a long period of time and withstand extremely aggressive ambient conditions. Lechler has been developing customized FGD solutions for decades, such as the HelixFlow spiral nozzle. In particular, the highly developed nozzles support the optimization of process engineering processes, help to reduce operating costs and support the achievement of ever stricter emission limits.

HelixFlow – The spiral full cone nozzle for versatile applications

Robust and low maintenance design – these are the top features of the HelixFlow spiral nozzle. This is precisely why it can be used for various applications and is particularly suitable for

  • general cooling,
  • general gas humidification and
  • flue gas desulphurization.

Why are HelixFlow nozzles an option for flue gas desulphurization?

The compact nozzle design of the HelixFlow provides highest flow rates through comparatively smaller sizes – for lower initial cost and installation costs.

Lechler´s HelixFlow features fine droplets at higher velocity than tangential whirl chamber nozzles. The exceptional design supplies the droplet size and flow rate of conventional full cone nozzles at at a significantly lower operating pressure.

This is exactly why the HelixFlow spiral nozzle is extremely energy efficient for scrubber systems in flue gas desulphurization plants which need to run highest slurry rates at minimized pressure. The one-piece design of the nozzle has no internal components and goes with large free passages for clog-resistant performance.

Technical information HelixFlow nozzleWith the HelixFlow, the medium is accelerated axially and peeled off on the outside by the spiral. The medium is deflected so that several spray cones are formed, distributing the medium over the surface.

Advantages of the Lechler HelixFlow, series 4Fx

  • Fine droplets even at comparatively low pressures
  • Low weight even with larger flow rates
  • Robust Design
  • Easy installation
  • Low maintenance
Spray pattern Lechler HelixFlow nozzle

The Lechler Helix nozzle as one of several forms of specific flue gas desulphurization nozzles from the Lechler portfolio, is successfully installed worldwide in FGD scrubbers which need to operate highest flow rates at lowest energy demand while providing smallest droplet sizes.

Whenever the tough conditions in FGD scrubbers indicate options, another Lechler FGD nozzle comes in, the Lechler TwinAbsorbPRO.

Precisely tailored to your application

Besides the HelixFlow series, Lechler offers you an extensive range of nozzles for flue gas desulphurization in various designs and materials.

Lechler has developed atomizing nozzles made of ceramic materials, e.g. SIC, SISIC or ReSIC. Typical materials for FGD nozzles are silicon carbide, stellite and alloys, for general applications the nozzles are also available in 316 stainless steel.
